What the test measures

The test measures the time gap between the two pointerdown events of your double-click, in milliseconds, plus the spatial offset between the first and second click. An attempt only counts when your browser itself reports a real dblclick event. Speed alone is not enough, the operating system has to recognize the two clicks as a double-click too.

Spotting double-click problems

An aging mouse with a bouncing switch often only shows up once files open twice by accident or forms get submitted twice. This test shows how reliably your mouse passes through a deliberate double-click. A lot of invalid or unrecognized attempts despite clean clicking is worth a closer look.

The system threshold explained

Windows, macOS, and Linux each use a fixed double-click time (500 ms by default, adjustable in system settings) to decide whether two clicks count as one double-click or as two separate ones. Sit well below that and you have room to spare; sit close to it and every double-click becomes a coin flip.

Answers to common questions about the double-click test

On top of the time and offset limits, the test also requires a real dblclick event from the browser. If your system doesn't report one (the mouse moved too far, an overlay got in the way, or accessibility software intercepted the clicks), the attempt counts as invalid, even if the interval and offset would have passed on paper. That is by design: only what your system actually lets through as a double-click gets counted.

Under 150 ms is fast, under 80 ms is very fast. Most people land between 150 and 300 ms without any training, which is plenty for everyday use given the 500 ms system threshold.

That is usually a hardware issue: a worn-out micro switch registers a single click as two (switch bouncing), no matter how cleanly you click. This test measures deliberate double-clicks and cannot detect that problem directly. Anti-ghosting software from the mouse manufacturer, a driver update, or replacing the mouse usually helps.

The spatial offset between your two clicks is scored in millimeters, not pixels. Otherwise results wouldn't be comparable between a 4K monitor and a small laptop screen. Calibration translates pixels into millimeters for your specific screen; without it, the test only shows a rough pixel offset and won't submit values to the leaderboard.

Five attempts are enough to keep a single slip (a slightly shaky click or a brief lapse) from skewing the result, without dragging the test out. Your fastest valid attempt is what counts, the same way most reaction and speed tests score your best run rather than your average.

Measuring double-click precision: what the test actually checks

The double-click test checks, over five attempts, how fast and how clean you can double-click a fixed target. Unlike a pure speed test, it also checks whether your browser recognizes the two clicks as a genuine double-click at all. A fast but too-offset or system-unrecognized click pair scores nothing.

What sets this test apart

An attempt only counts when your browser actually reports a native double-click event. Not every fast click sequence counts as a double-click to the operating system. Once calibration is set, the test also checks the spatial offset between both clicks in millimeters, so a frantic near-miss that happened to land fast doesn't pass as a good result. When you submit to the leaderboard, the browser sends all 5 attempts along, and the server recomputes interval and offset for each one itself.
