What Kohi is

Kohi was a Minecraft PvP server whose 10-second click test became an informal benchmark for click speed. "Kohi CPS" has stuck around ever since as a name for a score in exactly that format, no matter which site you measure it on.

How the measurement works

Every click runs through performance.now() and a pointer event. The full click sequence goes to the server and gets recomputed there independently before a result reaches the leaderboard. A value calculated only in the browser would be too easy to fake.

Click techniques explained

Normal clicking moves one finger once per click. Jitter clicking tenses the forearm so the fingers vibrate against the button, butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on the same button, and drag clicking slides a finger across the button to trigger several clicks per stroke. Each technique leaves its own pattern in the click intervals.

Answers to common questions about the Kohi Click Test

With normal clicking, most people land around 6 to 8 cps over 10 seconds. Jitter clicking often reaches 10 to 13 cps, and butterfly clicking in practised hands hits 14 cps or more. In the Minecraft PvP scene, scores from around 12 cps are seen as solid.

Technically the Kohi Click Test measures the same thing as the 10-second variant of a CPS test, the same performance.now() measurement, the same server-side recomputation. The difference is the name and the layout: Kohi is the fixed benchmark from the Minecraft scene, with exactly one time span instead of several variants.

Jitter clicking tenses the forearm and hand so the fingers vibrate rapidly against the button instead of clicking one at a time. Butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on the same mouse button. Both techniques push the click rate past what a single finger can do, and both count here like any other click.

The estimate only looks at the pattern of time gaps between your clicks, not at your hand or mouse. With fewer than 15 clicks, the pattern is not enough to say anything. Techniques can also overlap, for example very even jitter clicking that looks close to normal clicking. The estimate is a bit of fun, not proof.

When you submit, your browser sends the full click sequence, not just the final score. The server computes the value itself from that sequence and compares it with the one you reported. Click gaps under 8 milliseconds count as implausible, and a suspiciously even sequence gets flagged for review. Only plausible results reach the leaderboard.

How a run works

  3. 3 The run ends automatically after 10 seconds, and the result shows up right below.
  4. 4 Check your result, look at the estimated click technique, and if you like, add it to the leaderboard with a nickname.

What sets this test apart

Measurement runs on performance.now() and real pointer events, not a coarse timer. When you submit a score, your browser sends the full click sequence along with it, the server recomputes the value itself, and it discards implausible results. From the pattern of your click intervals, the test also guesses which technique you probably used, as a non-binding bit of extra fun.
